What: A chestnut frame platform and roof where adults can sip their drinks while watching the sun set or the rain fall and children sliding down the zip-wire from the crows-nest across the rope-bridge.
Where: In Kent, just off the M25 but you really wouldn’t know it.
Materials: Round-wood chestnut poles from the garden, manila rope, recycled oak floorboards, oak bench, cedar shingles.
Budget: £12,000
People: A team of experienced carpenters, a student-apprentice, family and friends ranging between the ages of 4 and 80.
How the children helped: De-barking the timber, shaping treads for the rope-bridge, shingling the roof, chiseling settings for joists, providing tea and cake.
